My steering coupler comes in today! I replaced the steering rack bushings last night and left the bolts loose in preparation for tonights install. They were tricky but not nearly as bad as I was thinking they would be. Hardest was the driver side bushing, trying to find room and worming the new bushing up and around the top of it. I bought an impact wrench for this job and future ones and damn, I have fallen in love. Has to be one of the greatest tools ever invented.

I still need to figure out how to take off the inner tie rod to replace the boot, but that hopefully won’t be too bad.

These old steering rack bushings were so damn flimsy. The driver side was set in there pretty good so it could have been alright to leave but the stiffer polyurethane should make it solider. The passenger side was awful and folding back over on itself so I’m excited to see if these new bushings as well as the solid STi steering coupler will make my steering feeling a bit more direct.

No before/after pics or process pics. Here’s a bonus pano of our garage though…

I’m glad to see the whole situation has worked out such that your Scoob will no longer be trying to kill you with frozen steering.
